Dr. William A. Scaife was born in Birmingham, Alabama and moved to Newark, New Jersey at the age of four. He graduated from South Side High School. Immediately after graduation, he was employed by Central Paper Company as a telephone clerk. The company funded his college education and promoted him to Credit Manager. He also attended Upsala College in East Orange, New Jersey receiving a Master s Degree in Social Science
Dr. Scaife has spent most of his professional life as a Social Worker gaining experience and insight to effective strategies for interacting with clients and assisting in with improving their lives. He serves as a member of the Homeless Taskforce with Newark Emergency Family Services; Chaired the Essex County Juvenile Court Conference and is a member of the Evangelistic Prison Ministry. He has volunteered fifteen (15) years with the Essex County Literacy Program organizing a reading and writing empowerment program. After 37 years of impeccable service, he retired.
After two short years of retirement, he became a Social Worker with the Irvington Neighborhood Improvement Corporation (INIC). Over the last four years, he coordinated the Advisory Board, Back to School, Thanksgiving and Christmas Giveaways.
Dr. Scaife started his musical career taking lessons at the Lauters and Griffith Piano Studio located in Newark, New Jersey. In 1969, he joined the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Family as the Minister of Music. He trained and directed choirs encompassing over 300 voices, including First Timothy's Senior and Male Chorus; Allen A.M.E. Inspirational and Male Chorus and the Mack Family. He also has recorded with Rev. Lawrence Roberts.
Dr. Scaife followed the call to preach the Gospel by attending the Newark Deliverance Bible Institute of New Jersey and North Eastern Seminary in Essex Falls, New Jersey and was ordained a minister in 1976.
Dr. Scaife is the National President of the World Gospel Music Association (WGMA) and been so since the inception. Assisted late Rev. R. P. Means and Rev. Phillips with organizing the Fellowship Baptist Church in Staten Island, New York and served as the church administrator. Currently, he serves as the Church Administrator and Overseer of the pulpit at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church and the head of the Music Department at Mount Herman Baptist Church in Newark, New Jersey
